The Oak Grove Board of Aldermen meets the first and third Mondays of each month at the Oak Grove Civic Center, 2100 S. Broadway. The board met Monday, May 19, and took the following action (unanimous unless  noted).

New business

  • Approved a request from Michael Leach to open a tattoo parlor at 204 S. Broadway, B. Alderman Mike Baxter voted no to this request.
  • Approved a site plan for a Patricia’s grocery store and retail center at 5th and Broadway. The grocery store will be 29,000 square feet and the retail center will measure about 7,300 square feet. Developer David Ward may later pursue constructing an assisted living senior citizen complex behind the store site.
  • Approved a resolution declaring the downtown redevelopment target area as blighted. The designation will allow the board to apply for a community block grant to conduct improvements. The designated area is bounded on the south by 13th Street, on the west by Clinton, on the north by 10th Street and the east by Austin Street.
  • Approved an ordinance establishing a cooperative agreement between the city of Oak Grove and Mid-America Regional Council for a cost-sharing project with the Kansas City Metropolitan Region Aerial Photography Project.
