Lee’s Summit High School is hosting a metro-area Academy Night for students who are interested in attending the U.S. Service Academics.
The event is from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at the high school, 400 S.E. Blue Parkway. The U.S. Service Academy Night is open to all students and parents throughout the Kansas City area.
Those attending will hear representatives from all of the government-sponsored military academies – the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, Merchant Marines, United States Military Academy at West Point and United States Coast Guard. Representatives will also be at the event from Virginia Military Institute and New Mexico Military Institute. Students and parents will be able to speak individually to the representatives before and after the meeting as well as hear presentations from each school.
A special session will be held after the meeting for interested juniors and their parents. This session will focus on the application process.
Students receiving an appointment to a military academy receive scholarships valued in excess of $250,000. All tuition, room and board is free at the government-sponsored military academies. After graduation from the military academy, students incur an active duty military commitment of five years.
Appointments to the military academies require a Congressional nomination.
