The Truman Memorial Building is closed today and Thursday for building upgrades.
All activities are canceled at the facility, 416 W. Maple Ave. in Independence, today, as well as Thursday and on July 20, to allow for the transfer of power to a new transformer being placed outside the facility and the wiring of a generator being installed on the east side of the building.
The Emergency Operations Center had obtained a grant that is allowing for the purchase of the generator. This works prepares the Truman Memorial Building for use as a relief site in case of an emergency.
The business office for Adventure Oasis Water Park will relocate to the Roger T. Sermon Community Center, 201 N. Dodgion Ave., on those closure dates. Contact Jodi Wynn, Parks and Recreation facility and recreation program supervisor at 816-325-7377 for more information.
