The following items were taken from the Oct. 20 through 26, 1962, Examiner.
Four Independence 4-H’ers were winners at the American Royal Livestock Show with swine in the fat barrow class. Roger Sandlin, Stanley Dobbs and Ralph Williams took first, second and third, receptively, for their Hamshires, and Mike Hart, Route 4, showed a reserve champion Berkshire.

The first shovel of earth was turned to start construction on a new city dog kennel. The city has budgeted $3,500 for the kennel, which is to be located near the sewage plant at Truman Road and 23rd Street.

Student leaders in the United Campaign are Marilyn Smith, 401 N. Vermont, Sugar Creek, for St. Mary’s High School, and Walter Hunkeler, 9941 Westport Road, chairman for Van Horn. The student campaign will begin Oct. 26 and will help the students to prepare for adult responsibility.

A change in editorial direction of publications was announced by the Board of Publications at Herald House. Roger Yarrington, who has been managing editor, has resigned to become editor of the Junior College Journal published in Washington, D.C. He will be succeeded by Paul A. Wellington, who has been on the staff since 1953.
