An Eastern Jackson County woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police said they found her 4-year-old son walking along a highway in Blue Springs.
Rhonda Walter, 38, was charged by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Thursday after Blue Springs police said they found her son walking along a busy two-lane highway near Adams Dairy Parkway.
A motorist told police that just after 7 a.m. they noticed the child, dressed only in a diaper, along the road. The motorist stayed with the boy until police arrived.
Police later determined that the boy walked about a quarter of a mile before he was picked up at Route AA and Adams Dairy Parkway, portions of which have no sidewalks.
The boy was not harmed.
Walter said she was asleep and did not know the child had left her residence.
The incident remains under investigation.
