The alleged shooter in the Independence home invasion has been charged.

Ramon D. Mack Jr., 20, is charged with first-degree assault and burglary and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to court records, Mack told police that on July 13  he went with two others, co-defendant Juan Hayes, charged Thursday, and a juvenile to a home in the 9800 block of Winner Road in Independence with an intent to steal.

They entered the home and the resident, running back into his room to retrieve a handgun, yelled at them to leave. Mack ran after him with a pistol and fired what Mack said was a warning shot, but the bullet struck the victim in the face, shattering his jaw and knocking out several teeth. A 9mm bullet was embedded in his collar bone, according to documents.

Mack and Hayes then fled, taking a cell phone belonging to the resident with them.

All three suspects were later apprehended in Kansas City.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 cash for Mack.
