Voting is continuing for the name of the new Catholic high school in Eastern Jackson County.
The three finalists are - Mother of Mercy high School, St. Francis of Assisi High School and St. Michael the Archangel High School. Voting ends Aug. 24.
The naming contest started back in May when individuals could submit a name for the high school. The name submitted must have included one or more of the following – a saint’s name; title of Jesus Christ or Mary, such as Good Shepherd or Mater Dei; or a Catholic leader or belief, such as Holy Family, cardinal virtues or Bishop “Smith.” After selecting the name, a reason must have be given as to why that name was submitted, based on the program statement that was also provided on the website. The finalists were chosen from those names submitted.
The winning name will appear in the Sept. 7 issue of “The Catholic Key.” The person who submits the winning name will receive a $250 gift card. If multiple people submit the same name, a winner will be drawn.
