It’s dry and warm, and officials say the threat of wildfires remains elevated early this week.
The National Weather Service says several factors are at play: the extreme drought, rising temperatures and a dry airmass, with relative humidity levels of 20 to 25 percent. Even with breezes of just 5 to 10 mph, the wildfire worry remains. “These weather conditions are favorable for rapidly spreading grass and brush fire,” the Weather Service said in a statement posted this morning.
The Weather Service points out that burn bans are in effect in many places and reminds people to be careful with cigarettes, matches, barbecue pits and any source of open flames and sparks.
Despite the break from the intense heat the area has had much of the summer, it’s still plenty hot: 94 today, 98 Tuesday, then just 92 Wednesday with a 30 percent chance of rain. The weekend looks moderate, with highs Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the 80s and a chance of rain Saturday.
