Park University is marking the election year with an exhibit of political memorabilia in the McAfee Memorial Library on the university’s Parkville Campus. The exhibit is on display through Nov. 30.
The collection, one of the more popular exhibits at Park, is on display every four years and is assembled by Carolyn Elwess, university archivist. Among the more historic items are a Herbert Hoover button, a Richard Nixon bumper sticker signed by Julie and Trisha Nixon, a collection from the 1993 inauguration of Bill Clinton and Al Gore and items from the 1976 Republican Convention held in Kansas City, Mo.
Most of the buttons are ones Elwess has collected over the years. Other items have been donated by community members, Park faculty and staff and other individuals.
The McAfee Memorial Library is located in Park’s underground Mabee Learning Center, which can be entered through Millsap Foyer. Admission is free.
Summer hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Beginning Aug. 20, the hours will be 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
