Mayor Don Reimal selected Spradling based on his contributions to the community.
In a news release from the city of Independence, Spradling was described as "passionate for the people of Independence, responding to those requesting his leadership, treating everyone eqully, not asking anyone to do something he will not do himself."
Spradling has been active in western Independence community issues, serving as secretary of the Northwest Communities Development Corporation and acting secretary of the Fairmount-Carlisle 353 Tax Abatement Board, among other activities.
