The National Weather Service has posted an excessive heat warning for the next three days for the metro area.
Highs at or near 100 are expected each day into the weekend, and the heat index could reach 108 both Wednesday and Thursday. That's enough to prompt officials to remind residents to drink plenty of water, spend at least some time each day in an air-conditioned space and avoid exertion when outdoors.
