The city of Independence says representatives for an unlicensed trash hauling company are going door-to-door, offering residential trash, recycling and yard waste pickup services.
Waste Services LLC is not licensed to do business in Independence, according to a news release. The company’s paperwork lists a post office box address in Spanish Fork, Utah. The city has contacted Waste Services LLC and notified the company of the requirement to obtain a business license.
Some citizens have reportedly been told that their existing trash hauler will no longer provide service in their city or that the city is restricting the number of trash trucks in their neighborhood. Neither of these statements are true, the city says.
Citizens with questions about their existing trash service are encouraged to contact the provider. The city also reminds citizens to be wary of anyone soliciting door-to-door – risks exist in these situations, including potential fraud, threats to personal safety or the possibility of becoming an identity theft victim.
Citizens are encouraged to do business with properly licensed companies and to read the fine print before signing any documents. Contact the city’s Business License Manager Terry Hartwig at 816-325-7078 for more information on business licensing in Independence.
