Little Blue Elementary in eastern Independence is getting ready for the first day of school and is having an Open House later this month to welcome students and families.
The event is at 6 p.m. July 19 at the school, 2020 Quail Dr. in Independence.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the unveiling of the school’s new mascot. Principal Jeff Williams along with parents, students and community members narrowed the list of potential mascots to five. The list includes - Badgers, Blue Herons, Blue Jays, Hawks and Sharks.
Other activities during the Open House include a tour of the new building and the opportunity to meet teachers and staff.
