Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation offering job training incentives for military veterans returning to the private sector.
The legislation enacted today allows employers to be reimbursed for half the wages paid to military veterans during an on-the-job training period. Lawmakers who backed the measure said it taps into federal money to offset part of the job training costs.
The new law replaces a 2006 state initiative -- called the "Hero at Home" program -- that was intended to provide job training and other aid to National Guard and reserve members. Nixon's administration says the new program expands benefits to people whose military service recently ended.
The veterans training bill is HB1680.
