The start of the 2012-13 academic year just got a little brighter for a group of Eastern Jackson County children.
On Saturday, Community Services League will distribute backpacks, school supplies and brand-new tennis shoes to more than 750 children – more than 500 families – in need. The Back to School Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at CSL Central Headquarters, 404 N. Noland Road in Independence.
The school necessities were obtained through community donations, and community business partners also will be on site to provide additional services and resources for families.
Local service providers partnering on the Back to School Fair effort include Mid-Continent Public Library, Foster Dental Care, Mental Health America of the Heartland and the Independence School District.
