'The Mile Starts Here' continues Wednesday morning

Independence residents still have a chance to get out and walk as part of the city’s “The Mile Starts Here” initiative.

The program – part of Building a Healthier Independence – continues at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Clothier Park, 17203 E. 23rd St. The walks are scheduled to last through the end of September, although the city might extend the program throughout the fall.

The remainder of the walking schedule includes:

– Aug. 22 and Sept. 26: Santa Fe Trail Park, 2731 S. Santa Fe Road.

– Aug. 29: George Owens Nature Park, 1601 S. Speck Road.

– Sept. 5: Farmers market route/Truman historical walking trail. Meet on the Square at the corner of Truman and Main streets.

– Sept. 12: Waterfall Park, 4501 S. Bass Pro Drive.

– Sept. 19: Clothier Park, 17203 E. 23rd St.
