Park University has once again earned a top ranking for the support and services it provides to service members, veterans and their families.
“Military Times,” an independent source for news and information for the military community, and its associated newsweeklies, “Air Force Times,” “Army Times,” “Marine Corps Times” and “Navy Times,” recently released its “Best for Vets: Colleges 2013” list. Park University was ranked No. 2 among all private colleges/universities in the country and No. 3 overall in the “online and nontraditional” category (schools that serve military students primarily online or through a network of small campuses).
The publication gave Park “4 stars” (out of four) for its academic support services — the only school in the category to receive this mark. It received “3.5 stars” for its military/veterans staff. The high marks were related to special withdraw/re-enrollment policies for deployed service members, veterans-only classes, tutoring and mentorship programs as well as the number of staff members dedicated to veterans issues and time spent on veteran-specific work.
Highlighting Park’s ranking was the university’s per-credit-hour rate at or below the $250-per-credit-hour cap on military tuition assistance; its participation in the Veterans Affairs Department’s Yellow Ribbon program; relaxed residency rules for service members/veterans; having a centralized veterans office (Park’s Office of Military and Veteran Student Services and Park Warrior Center and acceptance of academic credits for military training, as recommended by the American Council on Education.
