Clifford R. James, 30, was named administrative assistant to City Manager Ray W. Wilson. James for the past two years has been assistant to the city manager at University City, a St. Louis suburb. Wilson requested an ordinance setting up a salary of $8,000 per year for James.

The 50th annual Boy Scout Round-Up, the oldest continuous Boy Scout Show in the world, started May 4 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. Ed Wright, 611 W. Maple Ave., has directed the show for 46 of its 50 years. One of the events is the camping and pioneering event, under the direction of James Pimblott, 2809 S. Crysler Ave., and Maurice Hansell, 652 Manor Road. This event includes a show of Scouting towers, bridges, lean-tos and other things that are part of camping.

Six early flings for township posts on county committees in the August primary have been declared valid and added to the list by Harry W. Gallagher, county clerk. These filings were added to the list for Democratic committee posts, Blue Township: William Todd Sermon, Dr. Harry S. Jonas and Galen V. Boyer. Sni-A-Bar: Melvin E. Brown; and Washington, Roger E. Hooper. One filing was for a Republican committee post was Mrs. Ned B. Gorrell in Washington Township.

Five students were name national winners in the 35th annual Scholastic Art Awards for high school students, sponsored by Scholastic Magazines in New York. Winners from competition among entries totaling about 165,000 included: Richard Layland Jr., Chrisman; and Van Horn students, Deanna Beals, Janice Day, Wayne Floyd and Dee Ann Klaus.
