'The Struggle Continues' theme of annual Martin Luther King Jr. program

The city of Independence's annual Martin Luther King Jr. program is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21.

"The Struggle Continues" is the theme of this year's celebration, which starts at 7 p.m. inside the Truman Memorial Building, 416 W. Maple Ave. The program will be "Dr. King Speaks Through Our Young People," and the Chris Kelly Praise Dancers will perform. 

The John Olivarez Scholarship essay contest winner also will be announced at the free event.
