The Kansas City Royals announced Wednesday that they have invited 21 non-roster players to their 2013 spring training in Surprise, Ariz.
Those invited include nine pitchers, four catchers, four infielders and four outfielders. Seven of those have extensive major league experience, including pitchers George Sherrill, Dan Wheeler, Brian Sanches and Blaine Boyer, former MVP infielder Miguel Tejada and outfielders Endy Chavez, Xavier Nady and Willy Taveras.
Also invited were: pitchers Sugar Ray Marimon, Michael Mariot, Atahualpa Severino, Yordana Ventura and Ryan Verdugo; infielders Christian Colon, Anthony Seratelli and former Angels prospect Brandon Wood; catchers Adam Moore, Manuel Pina, Max Ramirez and Julio Rodriguez; and outfielder Luis Durango.
Royals pitchers and catchers report to Surprise on Feb. 11, and workouts for pitchers begin the following day. The remainder of the squad will report on Feb. 14 and begin workouts the next day.
