The 7th Annual Freezin For A Reason Weekend is from Friday to Sunday this weekend.

The project of Operation Chillout, a ministry of First Christian Church of Blue Springs, begins at 6 p.m. Friday and ends at  10 a.m. Sunday.

The partcipants sleep in a mock homeless camp on the front lawn of the church in shelters built of salvaged materials like plywood, plastic, cardboard and wood pallets. They do that to make the community aware of the homeless situation in the Metro area.

They also collect blankets, hats, gloves, coats, clothing and hygiene products. Donations are distributed to area agencies that supply them to people in need in the KC area.

First Christian is at 701 NW 15th St. at the corner of 15th Street and R.D. Mize Road.
