A mid-morning gas main break that closed 23rd Street in Independence was fixed by late morning, according to Independence police.

Residents of about three homes had been evacuated and are back in their homes.

Police got the first call about 10 a.m. and said the line was fixed around 11:30. The section of 23rd Street that was closed was at McCoy, Delaware, Union and Windsor. That area is between Noland Road and Crysler Avenue.
