The Independence Golf Course is now in the best condition it ever was and the club house will be opened in a few weeks. Dr. Ben Berry says the game of golf includes “companionship with friends, social intercourse, opportunities for courtesy, kindliness and generosity to an opponent, it promotes not only physical health, but moral force.” If the game is all that is claimed for it, it will add much to the enjoyment of our people, and there will become many more enthusiasts.

The granite blocks that are to be set up at Buckner as a marker of the old Santa Fe trail have arrived. In about a month they will be set up in a corner of the public school grounds. The granite blocks were taken out of the old Santa Fe bridge over the Missouri River at Sibley. The company which is building a new bridge, donated them to the Daughters of the American Revolution. This was done through the efforts of Mrs. Chase Henthorn, Mrs. Thomas J. Hedrick and Mrs. S.W. Hilt, all of Buckner, members of the DAR.
