Five of Independence’s finest offerings are nominees in the 2012 KC Visitors’ Choice Awards.

Independence received nominations in the following categories: Favorite Museum – Truman Library; Favorite Professional Sports Team – Missouri Mavericks; Favorite Landmark or Monument – Truman Home; Favorite Family Festival/Event – Santa-Cali-Gon Days; and Favorite Shopping Center or District – Independence Center.

Developed by the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association in 2007, the Visitors’ Choice Awards are the only award chosen exclusively by visitors to Kansas City. Finalists for each category were chosen in an online survey of visitors in June. To ensure that winners are “true visitor choices,” only votes from outside the five-country metropolitan area will be counted.

Visit www.visitkc.com for more information. The voting polls will close on Aug. 24.
