Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Kevin D. Harrell, chief deputy prosecuting attorney in Jackson County, as a circuit judge on the 16th Judicial Circuit, which covers Jackson County.

That fills a vacancy created when Judge Brian C. Wimes was appointed to the federal bench.

Harrell started in the prosecuting attorney’s office as an assistant prosecuting attorney in 1998 and in 2007 was appointed chief deputy prosecuting attorney. He earned his law degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
