With Wednesdsay being Halloween, the city of Independence's popular walking program "The Mile Starts Here" doesn't plan on taking a week off.
Instead, participants are being encouraged to wear their costumes as they walk. It starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the northwest corner of McCoy Park.
The remaining walks in the fall schedule are as follows:
– Nov. 7: Centerpoint Medical Center Trail, 19600 E. 39th St. Meet in the parking lot off of Jackson Drive at the medical offices entrance.
– Nov. 14: McCoy Park Trail, 800 N. Bess Truman Parkway. Meet in the northwest corner of the park.
– Nov. 21: No walk will take place since it is the day before Thanksgiving.
– Nov. 28: Little Blue Trace Trail. Meet at the trail head at Necessary Road at R.D. Mize Road.
The walking program is part of the Building a Healthier Independence initiative. Visit the initiative’s newly redesigned website at www.BuildingaHealthierIndependence.org.
