The Grain Valley Assistance Council will hold a chili-and-soup supper as a fundraiser to help those in need.

“Our food pantry’s pretty low,” case manager Mary Strack told Tuesday’s attendees of the Grain Valley Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon.

The event is Oct. 20 at the South Middle School. The cost is $50 for a table of eight, and each table also gets a pie.

There also will be an auction, a cakewalk and a quilt raffle.

Strack said the food shelf is going through about 3,000 food items a month and appealed to the community for help.

“It’s just really a struggle to keep food,” she said.

The Assistance Council’s site is at the First Baptist Church, 207 W. Walnut. Strack can be reached at 816-355-0328. She’s there on Wednesdays.
