If you use I-70 as part of your daily commute, have your say at a Jackson County Commuter Corridors open house.

Part of Smart Moves, a regional campaign to improve transportation in the Kansas City area, the Commuter Corridors study focuses on moving people from suburban communities to downtown. Jackson County residents can learn about future transit options and provide feedback from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Independence Regional Ennovation Center, 201 N. Forest Ave.

The study area includes two “high priority” commuter routes through Eastern Jackson County:

  • The I-70 commuter corridor runs from the heart of Kansas City, Mo and extends east along the Kansas City Southern railroad through Independence, Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Oak Grove in Jackson County and on to Odessa in neighboring Lafayette County.

  • The Rock Island corridor begins in the heart of Kansas City, Mo., sharing a common corridor segment with the I-70 corridor approximately to the eastern edge of Kansas City, Mo., and then follows the old Rock Island rail corridor through Raytown, Kansas City, Lee's Summit, and Greenwood in Jackson County and further south to Pleasant Hill in Cass County.

Smart Moves is a partnership between the Mid-America Regional Council, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, the city of Kansas City, Mo., and Jackson County. For more information, visit http://www.kcsmartmoves.org.
