The following items were taken from the Oct. 6 through 12, 1912, Examiner.

A new American record for an endurance flight was made at Annapolis, Md., by Lt. John H. Towers of the Navy Aviator Corps, in a hydro-aeroplane. He was continuously in the air for 6 hours, 10 minutes and 35 seconds. The best previous American record was 4 hours, 23 minutes and 38 seconds.
–––
A Golf Club Tournament, the first event of the kind, was recently held. Frank Paxton won first place in the handicap tournament of the Gates Park Golf Club at the links near the fair grounds. Second place went to Dr. J.B. Berry, and third to John A. Sea. Eighteen holes were played. John G. Paxton and Frank Paxton were the scratchmen.
–––
A sample plate of the new apple, “Delicious,” which has just begun to be grown in Jackson County, is in the window of Major & Humphrey. The apples are enormously large and very fine flavored, and it is said that they have been known to sell in the large eastern markets for $7 per bushel. This sample was raised on the farm of J.H. Lentz, near Lake City.
–––
The first meeting of the session for the Mary Paxton Study Class was held at the home of Mrs. W.V. Clark on North Delaware Street. They will study four English poets, Burns, Wordsworth, Keats and Shelley. The organization for the coming year was made by the election of Mrs. J.G. Paxton, president; Miss Ada Forbis, vice president; and Mrs. C.A. Galloway, secretary.
