It’ll be until at least four months before the vacant at-large Independence City Council seat is filled.

Council members Monday night had their first reading on an ordinance to set the schedule for replacing the seat left vacant by the resignation of Lucy Young last week. The council will vote on the ordinance next Monday, which will establish a series of deadlines and dates to fill the seat.

Once approved next week, nomination petitions and other materials will be available in the city clerk’s office beginning July 17. The first day for filing nominating petitions is at 8 a.m. July 31.
