Gov. Jay Nixon has announced the appointment of Charlie W. Shields, St. Joseph, to the Missouri State Board of Education.
Shields is Chief Operating Officer of Truman Medical Center-Lakewood. He joined TMC in July 2010, after serving 20 years in the Missouri General Assembly. Shields served as former Republican member of the Missouri Senate, representing the 34th District from 2002 until 2010. He last served as the President Pro Tem. Previously he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 1991 until 2002.
Shields' appointment is subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate, but he will be able to begin serving on the board immediately. The governor has appointed him for a term ending July 1, 2020.
