The city of Independence Human Relations Commission and the Missouri Commission on Human Rights will provide training on fair housing Tuesday.

The training, “A Guide to Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing,” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Truman Memorial Building, 416 W. Maple Ave.

Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing is a requirement and an obligation of all jurisdictions and municipalities that receive federal grants, including Community Development Block Grant awards from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Landlords, Realtors, social workers, bankers or anyone whose job relates to the housing industry is encouraged to attend.

The training will cover the following questions and issues: What the AFFH means; why AFFH is important; who is responsible for AFFH; the consequences of failing to properly follow AFFH; and how jurisdictions can follow AFFH.

Kristy Lambert, a unit supervisor with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, will conduct the training. Contact Lambert at 816-889-3583 for more information.
