The city of Independence will sponsor a disaster preparedness class on Feb. 23 at the Truman Memorial Building, 416 W. Maple Ave.
The class "Smoke or Fire?" will present ways for citizens and their families to maintain control during times of disaster. It's scheduled from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and is free.
