What the National Weather Service calls a "broken line of developing thunderstorms" was expected to affect Lee's Summit, Lake Lotawana, Oak Grove and other areas.
Elsewhere in the state, it's been a rough afternoon. The Weather Service postsed reports from about 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. of thunderstorms, high winds and hail in northern Missouri, including 1 and 3/4 inch hail near Chillicothe, 55 mpjh winds and pea-sized hail in Macon County and trees down near Maryville. A fire chief in Putnam County reported 50 mph winds, golf-ball-sized hail and a tornado-like rotation that lasted two or three minutes and disappaited.
Most of northern Missouri is under a severe thunderstorm watch at this hour, a watch that also extends to Columbia and Jefferson City. The watch extends into Iowa and Illinois.
