Local graduates earn Summit League academic honors

Michael Oakley and Kelsey Knoche were two of 25 University of Missouri-Kansas City athletes named 2011 Summit League Fall Academic All-League Distinguished Scholars.

Oakley, a freshman and Lee’s Summit North graduate, started 16 of 17 matches for the Kangaroos’ men’s soccer squad. Knoche, a senior and former Lee’s Summit standout, led the UMKC volleyball team with 334 kills and also came up with 339 digs.

Student-athletes must have at least a 3.60 grade-point average in the semester in which they compete and must use a  year of eligibility to be named a Distinguished Scholar.
