There’s a good chance of rain Saturday night.

The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 39 this afternoon under cloudy skies and with a calm wind. It falls to 31 overnight. The clouds stick around Saturday, but it should be warmer, with a high of 52. It should be breezy, with winds out of the south-southeast at 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 21 mph.

The showers come Saturday evening, and then maybe a thunderstorm after midnight. The chance of rain is 80 percent Saturday night and 50 percent through noon Sunday. About one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch of rain is expected Saturday night, though that could be heavier in areas that get a thundershower. Rainfall Sunday is expected to be lighter.

The new week brings a return to clear weather, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the 20s Monday and Tuesday and then gradually warming.

Although December, January and February are typically the three driest months in Kansas City, precipitation in recent weeks has been close to normal. Still, that’s not enough to do much to alleviate the drought that has gripped the area since last spring.
