JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Senate has confirmed the appointments of four of its former members – three with strong ties to Eastern Jackson County – to state boards and commissions.

All of the appointments were made by Gov. Jay Nixon and approved unanimously by the Senate on Thursday. They are:
• Former Democratic Sen. Victor Callahan of Independence to the State Tax Commission. After nine years in the Senate, Callahan just left office due to term limits.

• Charlie Shields, a Republican from St. Joseph who served as the Senate president pro tem, to the State Board of Education. Shields, an Independence native, is chief operating officer of Truman Medical Center-Lakewood, which serves much of Eastern Jackson County.

• Republican Bill Kenney to the Public Service Commission, which regulates utilities. Kenney was a state senator from Lee’s Summit.

• Former Democratic Sen. Stephen Stoll to the PSC.
