Seven people serve the community on the Oak Grove Board of Education.
The district covers more than 43 square miles and includes not only portions of Jackson, but
small parts of Johnson and Lafayette counties.
Board members are elected at large each April, and terms are for three years. Most years,
two board members are elected. However, every third year, three seats are open. Sue
Alexander, Mick Ross and Scott Fleming were elected in April. Dean Dyer is the 2008 president.
G.C. MATSON
Matson is beginning
the final year on the
Board of Education.
He is the owner of his
own business in Oak
Grove, specializing in
painting and other
home repair. He is a
long-time resident of
Oak Grove and has three children who all
attend schools within the school district. In
addition, he and his wife are graduates of
Oak Grove High School.
TIM SMITH
Smith is in his fifth
year on the board
and is currently vice
president. He has
lived in the district
for more than 10
years. He is a supervisor
at Thyssenkrupp
Stahl Co., an aluminum
foundry in Kingsville, Mo. In the
past, he has served on the board of the
Oak Grove Little League Baseball and
coached little league football, soccer, basketball
and baseball. He has two children
who are students in the school district.
SCOTT FLEMING
Fleming is the last of three new members on the Board of Education
beginning his first year. He grew up in Oak Grove and is a graduate of
Oak Grove High School. He is employed by Jim Kidwell Construction in
Greenwood, Mo.
In addition, he is a fundraising/scholarship coordinator for Pulling for
Education and is a little league football coach. He and his wife have a
child, who attends Maple Elementary.
SUE ALEXANDER
Alexander is beginning
her first year on
the board. She is a
former business and
marketing teacher at
Oak Grove High
School, retiring in
2007. In addition, she
has been a member of
the CTA and the
Missouri State Teachers Association for 26
years and has worked on various community
service projects through the high school
as well as through organizations such as
the Community Services League.
She and her husband have one son.
RUTH PIRCH
Pirch is in the final
year of her second
term and has served
as board president in
the past. She retired
in 2000 from the
University of Missouri-
Outreach and
Extension as a child
and family development
specialist. She works part time as an
early childhood consultant with the university.
Pirch has two daughters who are graduates
of Oak Grove High School.
