Chamber works to promote community

The Oak Grove Chamber of Commerce is
known for its overall contributions to the
community.
One way the organization does that is
through the events and activities, said
Executive Director of the Chamber of
Commerce, Sherril Penix.
“In April we host the Taste of Country,”
Penix said.
The Taste of Country is where the chamber
invites restaurants, catering companies,
breweries and wineries to come and prepare
food and drinks. People from the community
may pay to get in to sample all of the food
and drinks provided.
The chamber also hosts a benefit golf tournament
in June, held at the Bent Oak Golf
Course. A registration form can be found at

According to the Web site, the Oak Grove
Chamber of Commerce hosts a car and truck
show. People from all over can show their
cars off for a trophy.
“In addition, we have an Eastern Jackson
County Rodeo in the fall,” said Penix.
The rodeo is on Sept. 19 and 20.
Along with the variety of events and activities
the chamber hosts, it also provides ways
for surrounding businesses to connect, said
Penix. The chamber provides monthly luncheons
for businesses.
“We have networking events for the business
members. We also network with other
chambers around us,” said Penix. “This year
we worked with the Blue Springs Chamber of
Commerce.”
If a new business joins the chamber, that
business can receive a ribbon cutting.
“If you are opening a new business and
would like to join the Oak Grove chamber,
we will host a grand opening for your business
and will have a Ribbon Cutting for you,”
said Penix.
After the ribbon cutting, the chamber will
provide the business with two plaques. They
are given a plaque with their picture of the
ribbon cutting and they are also given a
membership plaque, said Penix.
To become a member of the chamber, you
can either find an application on the Web
site or go to the Oak Grove Chamber of
Commerce and fill one out, said Penix.
The chamber offers regular memberships
as well as gold memberships.
