Helen Soetaert, 81, of Independence, Mo., passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at her home of renal failure after three years of hospice care. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty, Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington where the Rosary will be recited at 2:30. In lieu  of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or Odyssey Health Care, 800 East 101st Terr. Suite 150, Kansas City, MO 64131-5308. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Helen was born December 14, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo., to Remy and Maria  (Christians) Duyck. She was united in marriage to Emil Soetaert in 1946 and together they shared 54 years of happiness. Helen enjoyed watching the birds from her chair and working on embroidered items for all of her family which will be cherished forever. Mrs. Soetaert is survived by her daughters Linda Ladd and husband Ronald, Barbara Jobst and husband Bernie, Mary Drury and husband Brian; six grandchildren Kevin, Scott, Bryan, Tamara, Kristina, Sean; nine great-grandchildren Tate, Kolin, Ian, Amber, Brandorian, Blake, Lily, Harley, and Dylan whom she loved dearly and would always make her smile when they came to visit her.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Emil Soetaert in August 2000; brothers James and Victor Duyck. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank her hospice care providers Tracie West, Herbert Dunn, and Latrece Hindsman for all of the loving care and Mother’s Angels that took care of her around the clock, Dorothy, Carol, Barbara, Jennifer, Mary, Pat, Rose, Teresa and Helen.
