Cheryl Anne Harmon (Brooks), 57, of Lawrence, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Cheryl was born March 11, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio. She was a longtime resident of Independence before moving to Lawrence in 2001. She was employed by Kemira in Lawrence, Kan., for 11 years. Cheryl’s loving nature, sense of humor and faith touched everyone she met and are a legacy and inspiration to those she leaves behind. Cheryl considered herself a caregiver and a fighter for justice for all. She genuinely loved to help people and loved being there for her family and friends. She called her grandchildren her “hobby.” She was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Gregory; brother, Mikie Brooks; and sisters, Joy Cayton, Tamara Bennett and Kelly Ward.

Survivors include her daughter, Tina Addington, Lawrence, Kan.; son, Steven Dorrell, Independence; brother, Kevin (Crissy) Gregory, St. Simon Island, Ga.; granddaughters, Kiki Addington and Riley Nikodym, Lawrence, Kan., and Britani, Kirstyn and Trinity Dorrell, Independence; great-grandson, Damien Hernandez, Independence; and many extended family and friends.

Join us in a Celebration of Life service Sunday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. at Chapel Oaks-Lawrence Funeral Chapel, 3821 W. 6th St., Lawrence, Kan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Cheryl may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and left in care of the funeral home.
