Norma Nave, 90, of Independence, Mo., died Saturday May 31, 2008 at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomers Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour before service at the funeral chapel. The family suggest memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice.
Norma was born September 19,1917 in Hamburg, Iowa, the daughter of George Earl and Pearl Rosa Bright Gard. At the age of two her family moved to Independence where she was reared and lived for 88 years. On November 27, 1939, in St. Joseph, Mo., she married Chris Nave. Together they shared 62 years as husband and wife before his death in 2002. Throughout her life, Norma had worked as a child care provider, at national Bella Hess, a homemaker, and for the Independence School District in both the food service and house keeping departments, and GEHA. Norma also served as a judge for the Jackson County Election Board, and was the last surviving member of the Chat and Chew Secret Pals Clubs. She was a former member of the Ellswood Meadows Garden Club, and a member of the Community of Christ Walnut Gardens Church. In addition to her husband, Norma was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Themla Sullivan, and three bothers, Chalmers, Quintin and Dwight Gard. She is survived by two sons; George Nave and his wife Jan, of O’Fallon, Mo., Chris Nave and his wife Jody, of Independence, Mo., two daughters; Phyllis Boyd and her husband John, of Blue Springs, Mo., and Vicki Nave, of Independence, Mo., eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
