Independence, MO —

Milton W. (Mit) Bankston, 80, of Independence, Mo., passed away July 1, 2008, surrounded by his family, and joined his grandson and fishing buddy, Nick Thresher in heaven.

Mit was born February 25, 1928 in Jackson, MI, the son of John Robert and Elma (O’Neil) Bankston. He was a lithographer for Rigby Printing in Overland Park, KS. After retiring, he drove for the Grain Valley School system. Mit was an avid fisherman and his numerous hobbies included horses, show chickens, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nick Thresher, in 2005.

Survivors include two daughters; Linda McCune, and husband Ben of Warrensburg, MO; and Vicki Carver and husband James of Liberty, MO; one son, Steve Bankston and wife Pat of Baldwin, KS; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren, one sister, Willene Hinken, Lees Summit, MO; one brother, James “Sonny” Newman of  Osage Beach, MO; and his former wife, Mary Bankston of Baldwin, KS.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, at New Salem Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of New Salem Funeral Home & Cemetery, Independence, 816-796-8600.
