Robert L. Beard, 84, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial at Lee’s Summit Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit.
Robert was born on March 11, 1928, in Chamois, Mo. He retired from the Navy as Chief Boatswain’s Mate after 20 years of service. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the start of the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a fireman in Stillwater, Okla. He then moved to the Kansas City area where he worked for the Lake City Arsenal for 20+ years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, the Bible fellowship class of Paul Voris, a life member of the VFW Post 5789, a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, and a member of numerous Navy organizations. He was an avid bowler, fisherman, and he loved to hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bessie Beard; brothers, Earl and Bill Beard; and sisters Marge Simons and Lillian Grubb.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Lee Ann Beard; son, Daniel Beard; daughter, Edith Beard, stepdaughter, Kandra Blyler; grandsons, Justin Blyler, Luke Cox, Joshua Rogers and Jeremy Rogers; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
