Melvin D. Hinkle, age 83, of Barnett, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Four Seasons Living Center in Sedalia. He was born May 14, 1926, in Menard, Texas, the son of the late Jonathan Jeams and Minnie Mae Mapes Hinkle.
On January 26, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Esther Fellers, who survives of the home.
Melvin was a carpenter for many years for the Millwright Local #1529. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in WWII.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Independence and the Versailles First Baptist Church.  He was also a Master Mason of the Independence Masonic Lodge #76.
 He enjoyed woodworking and raising horses.
In addition to his wife, Esther, he is survived by his children, Doug Hinkle and wife Fran of Dunedin, Florida, Ronnie Hinkle and wife Rose of Otterville, Missouri, Esther Faye Wisdom and husband Clint of Gladstone, Missouri, Jonathan Hinkle and wife Karen of Clearwater, Florida, Frank Hinkle and wife Cheryl of Independence, Missouri, Jimmie Hinkle and wife Melissa of Independence, Missouri, and Cheryl Beavers and husband Bill of Barnett, Missouri; fifty-two grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Wayne Hinkle and wife Jan of Barnett; and many other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lorene Hinkle, his brother, James Earl Hinkle, and two sisters, Arte Mae Hinkle and Alta Faye Hinkle.
 Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 7, at the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Crossroads Hospice. Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
