Gary R. Silvernail, 74, a Blue Springs, Mo., resident, passed away May 31, 2012, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
He was born November 3, 1937, to Theodore and Vesta (Heath) Silvernail-Ellis in Aberdeen, SD. Gary was united into marriage with Patricia Kay Engelhart on September 10, 1963, in Aberdeen, SD. Gary is a graduate of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. He went on to obtain his master’s degree from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD. Gary worked as a consulting systems engineer for IBM; retiring in 1993. He is a past member of the Elks lodge in Blue Springs, Mo. Gary was also a Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, traveling, hunting, fishing, and coin collecting. Gary loved spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; and step-father Willard Ellis, whom Gary was very close to. Survivors include wife, Patricia; son, David and wife Carol Silvernail of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren Blake and Lauren Silvernail of Olathe, Kan., and their mother Barbara Silvernail; half- brother Brooke Silvernail of Minnesota.
A funeral service celebrating Gary’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs, Mo. A private Burial will follow at the Blue Springs Cemetery in Blue Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. John Lalande Catholic Church food pantry and may be left in care of the funeral home.
