Richard “Mark” Shepherd, 51, of Independence, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012.

Cremation. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Mark was born Nov. 6, 1961, in Kansas City, Mo., to H.J. and Sharon Shepherd. He graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1980. He worked for Hallmark Cards for 25 years.

Survivors include his former wife, Deanna Shepherd of Gardner, Kan.; two children, Danny Shepherd of Gardner, Kan., and Olivia Shepherd of Topeka, Kan.; his parents, H.J. and Sharon Shepherd of Independence, Mo.; his sister Teryl and Kevin Jacobs, and his niece, Samantha Jacobs, and nephew Clayton Jacobs, all of Independence, Mo.; his aunt Ann and Venton Goodnight; and his cousins, Ron (Sandy) Rice and Kevin (Demi) Rice.
