L. Fern Beardsley, 93, of Independence, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Burial will be Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence.

Fern was born November 14, 1919, in Andover, Mo., to James William and Catherine (McDowell) Carpenter, as one of many children. She graduated from a local high school and attended one semester at Graceland College. Fern later married Maynard Beardsley and together they had two children. She was an accomplished homemaker and a life long member of the RLDS church. Fern enjoyed holiday family gatherings and was very close to her siblings. Her children fondly remember good food cooked by their mother and the family vacation home near Lake of the Ozarks. Fern is loved and will be missed.

Fern is survived by daughter, Donna Beardsley, Independence, Mo.; son, Burt Beardsley and wife, Wendy, of Tucson, Ariz.; and two siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and many other siblings.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Gudgell Park Community of Christ, 500 E. Gudgell, Independence MO 64055. Online condolences may be left at www.speakschapel.com.
