Raymond A. Martel, 80, of Independence, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

Raymond was born August 12, 1931, in St. Mary’s, Kan., to John and Eva (Brungardt) Martel. In his younger years, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad. Most recently he worked as a concrete truck driver until his retirement. For many years, Raymond had been an umpire for the American Legion in Blue Springs and surrounding areas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Pauline (Calvin) Martel.

He is survived by his six children, Raymond Martel Jr., Pauline Moyer, Patty Hazelrigg, Jim Martel, Bob Martel and Paula Rumsey; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Martel; and sister, Virginia Owens.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Mo. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, at the Suburban Chapel, with burial to follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.
