Beloved husband, father, and friend – James “Sam” Houston went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 2, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and one brother. James is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home, of 42 years, two sons, Brian Houston, of Independence, Missouri, Brent (Emily) Houston of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and daughter, Brenda (Randy) Stallings of Asheville, North Carolina, two granddaughters, six sisters, and one brother.
James served in the United States Army from 1960-1962. He retired from Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in 1992. He was active in his church, and in his spare time he volunteered at the Jackson County Genealogy Society Library in Independence.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, November 6, at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Road, Independence, Mo. 64050. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7, at the Central Assembly of God Church, 1009 E. 23rd St. South, Independence, Mo. 64055. Burial will be Monday, November 9, in the State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo.
